Your result

How well Next Level English fits you depends to a large part on five keys. Each question in the questionnaire was related to one of these keys. You got this result because of your answer to key 4 and/or 5.

* Your answers are in the explanation email sent to your email address.

1. Your starting level is neither too low nor too high.

Fantastic! Your current English level is at least A2 and not too high. That means that you will learn a lot, will easily follow the lessons, and enjoy participating in the Zoom webinars.

2. You have enough need to stay motivated.

Great! The more often you need, the more you will want to improve. The more you want to improve, the higher the motivation to practice.

3. You are ready to commit enough time to turn knowing into new habits.

Super! You committed to at least 5-10 minutes a day working on your English. Perhaps you committed to more. In that case, even better!

4. Being comfortable making mistakes and accepting help from others.

OK! If you answered “I am afraid to say anything”, then this is something to work on. The fear of error is the first error in language learning. A child afraid to speak would not make, and so not be able to learn, from the 1000’s of mistakes made on the way to learning their native language. Improving a foreign language needs you to be comfortable enough making mistakes so that you are relaxed enough to receive and learn from the feedback you get from those you are speaking with.

We train this in Next Level English because this openness is a big part of learning how to best learn. So don’t worry if you got this result. But do keep it in mind and perhaps even focus on it when improving your English.

5. Being open to new ways of seeing, thinking about, and feeling your lived world.

Ok, perhaps you answered ‘closed like a clam’. If so, no worries, this is something we work on in the course. Being open means being willing to be creative, enjoy playing with ideas, and to look beyond the cold facts. Languages not only focus on different aspects of life to communicate, they also sometimes communicate the same aspects of your native language in different, sometimes counterintuitive ways. The more closed you are the more you might resist new ways and new aspects to communicate. Such resistance is one of the biggest obstacles to adults learning a foreign language.

We work on this in the course by highlighting how and where the English world is different from the German world and how to best work with that. So, here too, don’t worry about this, just keep it in mind.

* Answer the questionnaire again if you change your mind on one or both of these questions.
