A close look at what language is in a way that can help you learn and me teach English more easily. Then we will look at what that means for the best way to learn and improve a new language. In lesson two you will find a guide to making the most of our webinar sessions.

By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of what it is that we are working on when we are learning a language.

2.2 The How

By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of how I advise you to learn and improve your English. A way based on the way of thinking about language we looked at in the previous lesson.

2.3 Your English technology fitness program

By the end of this lesson, you will have started with your personal small universe fitness studio and understand why this is the best way to build your English motor for everything you want to communicate in English.

2.4 A seven-step survival method and Thingamajig

By the end of this lesson, you will learn seven things that will help you control the conversation and so feel safer and more secure working with your customers in English, and that will help them feel more secure working with you.

11 Lessons

English Technology & Your Vocabulary

Vocabulary, fundamental English language technology, and the most important sound in the English language to begin sounding like a native speaker. We will begin with your most important vocabulary, including the most important verbs and words for position in time and space. Then we start working on six technologies for six fundamental pieces of information communicated in almost every conversation.

3.1 Who or What – replacing names

By the end of this lesson, you will be making very short correct sentences with technology to replace names you do not know or do not want to repeat over and over. To practice it, you will be making slowly longer sentences using this technology until you can do so without thinking about it.

3.2 Operators – fundamental actions

At the end of this lesson, you will be comfortable using circa 25 of the most flexible and powerful English action words

3.3 Directives – fundamental positions and directions

At the end of this lesson, you will be comfortable using circa 25 of the most flexible and powerful English position and direction words.

3.4 When – being in time & the mystery of the present

By the end of this lesson, you will know and be practicing the technology in English to communicate whether an action is in the present, past, or future: The When Technology.

3.5 Making Movies I & II – moving pictures

By the end of this lesson, you will be using the -ing ending more and more and understand why Making Movies is a relationship technology.

3.6 Diced guided practice – the pool

This is our proprietary language learning gamification, real-time pronunciation feedback, and customized dictionaries platform.

3.7 How Probable I and II – positive and negative messages

By the end of this lesson you will have learned and be practicing English language technology to efficiently communicate how much you believe or want an action to happen and how much freedom you want to give people when we communicate a decision or order.

3.8 The magic of the TH – sounding like a native speaker

By the end of this lesson, you will have a better feeling for, know the two different sounds for, and have easy ways to practise making the TH sound in English; one of the most important sounds in the English languages.

3.9 Have Salad – order in time

By the end of this lesson, you will have made sense of the confusion around the many meanings of 'have': especially the meaning and use of 'have' as a way to communicate the order and truth of events in time.

3.10 Technology summary and your fitness program

Here you will find an overview of the technology you have been mastering and a reminder summary to keep working on your English fitness program.

Closing gaps and tying it all together

In this final technology lesson we will go step by step through all the technologies we have worked on, tie them all together, and close as many of the gaps we had along the way as possible.

Your Customer Service Conversations & Emails

A way of framing your consultations and emails that make you more comfortable working in English and confident that you are providing the highest possible level of customer support in English.

4.1 Perspectives and Politeness

By the end of this lesson, you will have a clear picture of how working with rabbits is not always the same as working with ducks, and three principles to help decide how to best communicate with rabbits.

4.2 Basic rabbit communication

By the end of this lesson, you will have a set of tools for good rabbit communication that strengthens the relationships you need to work well with rabbits and polite ways to ask rabbits questions or ask them to do things.

4.3 Professional small talk

By the end of this lesson, you will have a way of thinking about Small Talk as communicating how you will work together and have a way to do that well. 

4.4 Turning to and ending the work

By the end of this lesson, you will have learned highly professional ways to move empathetically from small talk to the work you need to do with your customers and set the goal for your conversation so that you can professionally end the conversation and both feel good about the work you did.

4.5 Professional emails

By the end of this lesson, you will have reflected on the five things you want to have happen when sending an email. And you will have learned ways to optimize the five parts of your emails in such a way that lets you build and maintain the relationship with empathic, clear, and immediately understood emails that your recipients want to open and act on.
